Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a day of service. According to The King Center it is a day “not only for celebration and remembrance, education and tribute, but above all a day of service. … It is a day of volunteering to feed the hungry, rehabilitate housing, tutoring those who can’t read, mentoring at-risk youngsters, consoling the broken-hearted and a thousand other projects for building the beloved community of his dream.” There are many ways to volunteer and serve in Washington County, from walking a dog at PAWS and More, to helping families who have a loved one in hospice care, to becoming a youth troop or club leader.

Many offices will be closed in observance of the federal holiday. Washington, Mid-Prairie and Highland schools will not have classes. The United States Postal Service is observing the holiday Monday, meaning post offices will be closed and no mail will be delivered. Also, banks will be closed.
