For the last several years, Jared Schneider has served in the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and on the Wellman City Council. However, after recently being elected Washington County Sheriff, he’ll have to drop the latter. Because of that, the City of Wellman will be getting a new council member at their January 3rd meeting. According to Wellman City Clerk Beth VanWinkle, the council decided to fill the vacancy by appointing someone to serve the rest of Schneider’s term, which comes to an end in the fall of 2017. Anyone interested in filling the position is encouraged to reach out to the city and attend the January 3rd city council meeting. VanWinkle says if the council makes a movement to appoint someone at that meeting and it gets a second, the council’s vote will happen immediately and the new board member will be approved. Otherwise, the council could deliberate and decide at their January 16th meeting.
