In order to dispose of regular household garbage and recyclables at the Washington County Recycling Center, you must be a rural resident of Washington County. Lynn Whaley, owner of WEMIGA, which is the company that is now operating the Washington County Recycling Center, spoke at Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting. He said, since beginning December 1st they’ve seen the rules of operation not be followed by patrons. He said they’ve had people bring ashes, which aren’t accepted, as well as mattresses from Ainsworth.
Supervisor Jack Seward said they need to educate the public because it is only for the rural residents, not for people who live in local towns. Whaley drafted a flyer with the rules, hours of operations and days closed for holidays.
Those flyers will be distributed by the board of supervisors and can be seen above.
Clarification: Residents of the City of Washington may still take their recyclables to the county center.
