Bells can be heard as you enter area stores during this holiday season. The efforts are organized through a local committee with the Salvation Army. The goal is to fill the red kettles with donations while volunteers ring bells. Deb McCreedy who helps organize the local effort says last year they raised over $14,000.

The funds raised are used to benefit people in Washington County. McCreedy says it’s used in a variety of ways from food certificates, to helping with rent or utility payments, for clothing or even roof repair. McCreedy says, “The local committee works closely with HACAP to make sure the money is spent where it is needed.”

Jim Stiles says they’re still looking for volunteers for December 23rd and 24th, if you’re willing to volunteer either of those days contact Stiles at 653-3367.
