Strong defense is part of the reason the Lone Tree Lady Lion basketball team (4-0) is off to their best start in a decade. The Lady Lions are undefeated through their first four games, and have held their last three opponents under 30 points. Lone Tree’s off to their best start since the 2006-07 season when they started 5-0. Head coach Jonathan Harshman has liked the effort and attitude put forward by his squad thus far.

Harshman’s been complimentary of senior Elena Sieverding, this week’s KCII Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week. Harshman states Sieverding is a rock solid communicator on both ends of the floor and has elevated her level of play. As heard on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIRadio.com Tuesday night, Sieverding recorded 14 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and six steals in Lone Tree’s 60-24 victory over the Iowa Mennonite School.

The Lone Tree Lady Lions bring their unblemished record on the road for the first time tonight. The Lady Lions are headed to Letts for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North battle versus the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons (0-2). The Falcons scored a combined 42 points in a pair of losses to Pekin (2-0) and Mediapolis (2-0). The varsity girls game tips off at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
