There are 112,000 children and youth waiting to be adopted in the U.S. One local family who has adopted children is Mark and Lori Cavin’s of Ainsworth. KCII News sat down with Lori and her now adult daughter Lindsey and spoke about the adoption process they went through. Lori shared they decided to adopt after being married for eight years and a friend suggested looking into Lindsey’s case. The Cavins went through the process which included home visits and family meetings with a case worker.

The process can take months, then one Friday afternoon she got the call that Lindsey was officially going to be their daughter. November 14th was the anniversary of Lindsey’s “Gotcha Day” when she came to live with her parents.

Lori recommends other families consider adoption, and she advises people to have patience and an open heart that it will happen when it’s meant to.

The Cavins also adopted their two sons, Cedric and Eli. All three of their children came to live with them when they were about two years old. To hear more about their story listen to today’s Washington Page with KCII.
