Former district opponents will collide tonight in the opening round of the Class 1A football playoffs. The No. 9 Sigourney-Keota Cobras (8-1) begin the postseason at Pella Christian High School against the undefeated No. 2 Eagles (9-0). Last season, the Cobras defeated the Eagles, 52-35.

The success of the Cobras’ offense has been because of their use of the single wing formation. It features an unbalanced line tossing the football to one of four backs behind the line of scrimmage. The four backs include a quarterback, wingback, fullback, and tailback. Sigourney-Keota has scored 46 touchdowns and compiled 3,380 rushing yards, the third most in the state regardless of class. Three Cobras have more than 680 rushing yards. Wingback Avery Moore tops the squad with 1,430 yards and 21 touchdowns. Quarterback Luke Greiner has 830 yards and 12 scores. Tailback Carson Crawford adds 684 yards and nine touchdowns. Sigourney-Keota’s defense recovered 14 fumbles, four more than the rest of their district, and their 14 interceptions rank second.

The Eagles captured their first undefeated regular season in program history with a 49-8 triumph over Woodward-Granger (3-6) last Friday. Quarterback David Kacmarynsk is one of two quarterbacks in Class 1A to throw 27 touchdown passes, and he has 1,542 passing yards.. Wideout Levi Jungling’s 15 touchdown receptions are four more than anyone else in Class 1A football, and he ranks third in the state with 912 yards. Pella Christian cruised by their regular season competition with an average margin of victory of 48.1 points.
