The final regular season road trip will take the No. 9 Sigourney-Keota Cobras football team (6-1 overall) to Wapello tonight. The Cobras will make their second trip to Louisa County, continuing their postseason push against the Indians (5-2 overall).

Sigourney-Keota has used a productive rushing attack to win six of their first seven games. The Cobras lead the district with 2,473 yards and 37 touchdowns. Their 9.5 yards per carry is nearly 1.5 yards more than the rest of the district. Running back Avery Moore is the only athlete in the district with more than 1,000 yards rushing. Moore has amassed 1,095 yards and 18 touchdowns. Quarterback Luke Greiner ranks fifth in the district with 594 rushing yards and his 10 touchdowns are the fourth most. The Cobras’ defense has forced 22 turnovers. Sigourney-Keota is leading the district with 10 fumble recoveries and their 12 interceptions are the second most in the district, just one behind Highland.

A majority of Wapello’s offensive success has been through the air. The Indians’ 1,100 yards passing ranks second in their district, trailing Wilton by 34 yards. Junior Logan Belzer has accounted for 100 percent of Wapello’s passing stats, the most by a single player in the district. . Belzer’s top target is Logan Mears. Mears leads the district with 27 catches for 443 yards and seven touchdowns.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Wapello High School.
