It’s been a month since the grand opening of the Mid-Prairie indoor athletic facility, which has given the school time to assess how it’s been going so far. According to Superintendent Mark Schneider, they’re proud of the facility and it’s been used virtually non-stop since it opened. It’s been used not only by athletic teams, but also physical education classes, intramural sports, morning band practice, and even a math class. Schneider added they’re appreciative of the coordinating committee and everyone that donated to the project.
At their most recent meeting, the school board showed that appreciation to the committee by giving each of the four members a district volunteer award. The committee included Ryan Schlabaugh, Ryan Miller, Ryan Harland, and Sherry Conrad, and each were recognized for their contributions to the project from start to finish. Schneider said the facility still has a few things left to finish, including equipment that needs to be ordered and some minor construction to complete. All total, the indoor facility project ended up costing approximately $650,000. Of that total, Schneider said $100,000 came from in-kind contributions from local contractors who donated labor time to the project. They also received a $200,000 grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.
