Three area volleyball teams will battle for one spot in next month’s state tournament. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) recently issued the postseason volleyball pairings. The Columbus Wildcats (8-16 overall), the Highland Huskies (20-10 overall), and the Sigourney Savages (4-12 overall) are among the 12-teams in the Class 2A Region 8 bracket. Other teams include: Cardinal (7-11 overall), Danville (4-14 overall), Louisa-Muscatine (1-22 overall), Mediapolis (21-5 overall), North Cedar (24-3 overall), Pekin (9-11 overall), Tipton (21-7 overall), Van Buren (11-14 overall) and Wapello (16-6 overall).

Highland opens their postseason run at home October 18 against the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons. The meeting will be the third between the schools this season; Highland won the first two in straight sets.

Columbus will also begin their playoff journey October 18 when they travel to Wapello for a match against the Arrows. The Wildcats and Arrows renew their county rivalry tonight in Columbus Junction.

Sigourney drew a bye in the first round and will host the winner of the Pekin vs. Cardinal match on October 24. The Savages dropped a pair of matches against Pekin in September. Sigourney and Cardinal haven’t met this season.

The regional championship will be held November 1 at Iowa City West High School. First serve of all postseason matches is 7 p.m.
