October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Washington City Council will have a special presentation on it during their meeting Tuesday. A volunteer board called the Washington County Domestic Violence Coalition is holding a kNOw More event Thursday at the Washington Farmers Market. From 5 to 6 p.m. area residents can learn about what resources are available locally and from 6 to 7 p.m. there will be a presentation with Traci Wenger speaking. In April, her niece, Courtney Moore, was killed by an ex-boyfriend and there had been signs of domestic abuse in their relationship.
According to the Coalition, one in four women and one in seven men experience severe physical violence by an intimate partner and in Washington County that comes to 4,384 people, there will be ribbons hanging in downtown Washington to represent this figure.
