The Iowa State Fair is well known for its Butter Cow and other butter sculptures every year, and this year they sought the aid of the City of Riverside with their Star Trek-themed creations. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, sculptor Sarah Pratt has created two bridge scenes featuring Captain James Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, and Lieutenant Uhura, along with a butter model of the starship Enterprise.

Trekfest board member Ken McCracken said they reached out to Riverside for additional input, and they will include a butter version of the sign declaring Riverside the future birthplace of Kirk. He added it’s nice to see Star Trek appreciation spreading to new venues. He feels Star Trek is a culture all its own, and it’s showing up more in every day life. Everything from TV shows to conventions, and now the state fair has helped that culture continue to spread. The Star Trek butter sculptures will be on display next to the traditional Butter Cow n the John Deere Agriculture Building all 10 days of the fair.
