Today Washington residents have a chance to decide if $3 million in bonds should be used to help fund a new YMCA building. The total project cost is $10.4 million and the new facility will include a six-lane pool, a weight-lifting area and a full gymnasium. The bonds would be over a 20-year period and the impact to residents is 98 cents per $1,000, according to City Administrator Brent Hinson.
According to Sue Meeks, Washington County Elections Coordinator, 381 people voted early in the special election. She adds there are still six ballots that were mailed out that have not been turned in. Wards 1 and 4 vote at the courthouse and Wards 2 and 3 vote at the former library building, across the street from the YMCA. Polls are open until 8 p.m., at which time listen to KCII for live results from the Washington County Courthouse.
