After 10 years on the Washington City Council, Russ Zieglowsky of Ward 2 is stepping down from his post. Zieglowsky is moving within the city but out of his district, so he has to vacate his seat on the council. Mayor Sandra Johnson presented a gift to him at Monday’s city council meeting in appreciation of his service.

The council can fill the vacancy by special election with additional costs to the city or can appoint someone to fill the remainder of the term. The council approved a motion filling the seat by appointment. City Administrator Brent Hinson shared they’re asking people who are interested in filling the Ward 2 seat to submit an interest form.

Under Iowa law the council has to initiate action within 60 days of the resignation. The expression of interest form can be found at Washington’s City Hall.
