Washington residents will go to the polls tomorrow to decide if $3 million bonds should be approved for a new YMCA building in Washington. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained the bond would be over 20 years and with the assumption that interest rates would be at four percent, the city would have an annual payment of $224,000. This means, residents would see an increase of 98 cents per $1,000 to help fund the project.

The total project cost is $10.4 million and will include a six-lane pool and full gymnasium. Becky Harkema, director of the YMCA, shares they’re looking to build a new facility because they currently don’t have the space they need for the programs they offer.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday with Wards 1 and 4 at the Washington County Courthouse, and Wards 2 and 3 will vote at the former library building. Listen to KCII Tuesday night for live results from the Washington County Courthouse.
