Sunday morning at 2:37 a.m. it was reported that a subject stole a blue Dodge Caravan from a residence on Coppock Road, south of Washington, and was possibly on their way to Washington. According to the Washington County Communications office, the van was located in the ditch at the intersection of W55 and W47 with the airbags deployed but nobody was in the vehicle. A K9 unit was used to try to locate the subject and an ambulance was placed on standby while authorities looked for the person. Washington Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s personnel also assisted. The vehicle was towed.

About two-and-a-half hours later, authorities arrested 24-year-old Avery Landon Leavens of Washington at the Washington County Hospital and Clinic emergency room for operating while intoxicated – second offense, driving while barred, operating without owners consent, failure to maintain control, public intoxication and burglary in the third degree.

Between the van being reported stolen and the arrest at WCHC, a report on Wayland Road in Washington at 3:22 a.m. came into the communications center of a caller hearing a person in the basement and the cellar door being open. Leavens is being held at the Washington County Jail.
