In 10 games last season, the Washington Demon football team amassed nearly 4,000 yards of total offense and scored 44 touchdowns during a 7-3 campaign. The Demons’ success wouldn’t have been possible without the blocking of Washington’s offensive line.
Among the Demons’ seven returning offensive starters, four are along the offensive line. Senior Seth Townsen highlight’s Washington’s returning offensive line starters. He spent the last two seasons at left tackle, and was named to the all-district team his sophomore and junior seasons.
Senior Aaron Vittetoe is also entering his third season as a starter on the Demon offensive line, spending last season at left guard. Vittetoe was named an honorable mention all-district performer his sophomore and junior seasons.
Junior Mark Engelken returns to the Demon O-Line after starting all 10 games at right tackle last season. Engelken was named an honorable mention performer as a sophomore.
Senior Gabe Greiner had his junior season cut short due to injury but is healthy entering his final high school football season. Greiner, who played right guard prior to his injury, will take over the center position for 2016 graduate Tanner Renoux.
Finally, junior Mitchell Huisenga is penciled in as the team’s starting right guard. Huisenga filled in for Greiner at the position for the final four games last season.
The newest season of Washington Demon football will kick off August 26 in Albia, facing the Blue Demons.
