Firefighters in Washington extinguished a house fire Wednesday morning and were able to rescue a dog named Gunner. It wasn’t the first time the dog had been rescued, as he was adopted by the Reid family about three years ago. Renee Reid explained she received a call Wednesday morning about 10 a.m. from the safety center stating the fire department was at their home at 321 West Van Buren Street. When she arrived she found that one of their dogs was able to get out of the house and was with firefighter Lyle Hansen, but she pleaded with firefighters to find Gunner who was still in the house.

Gunner was carried out in a blanket unresponsive and a firefighter performed CPR to resuscitate him, then Hansen took the rescued beagle-mix to Town and Country Veterinary Clinic where he is recovering. Reid adds her 17-year-old son Chandler and Gunner are best friends.

The veterinarian stated she’s please with how Gunner looked Thursday morning, actually looking better than anticipated, but is still coughing. They’re going to give him IV fluids because he isn’t eating or drinking.

Reid wants to thank all of those who have donated to Gunner’s medical costs and his tail did wag and he got a chance to cuddle with his family when they visited him at the vet’s office. Reid requests the next time you see a firefighter to thank them.
