The high temperature in Washington on Wednesday was 95 degrees, just two degrees below the record high for June 15th, and with these hot temperatures pet owners are reminded to take care of their animals. Do not leave pets in parked cars, as they can quickly become an oven with rising interior temperatures, advises director of PAWS and More animal shelter Amber Talbot. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, on an 85 degree day it takes 10 minutes for the inside of a car to be 102 degrees, even with the windows open an inch or two.
If you see an animal in a car unattended, Talbot recommends to go in the store and ask for a manager to help locate the owner of the vehicle. She also advises you can call the non-emergency line for local authorities 653-2107.
