A week filled with doubleheaders against ranked teams ended Thursday evening for the Washington Demon softball team (2-12 overall). As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons traveled to Maple Leaf Athletic Complex for a pair of games against the No. 7 Mt. Pleasant Panthers (12-2 overall). Washington lost a pair of one-run contests to their league rivals, falling 2-1 in game one, and 7-6 in game two.
Mt. Pleasant threw their ace Bailey Johnson in game one, earning the Panthers the victory by allowing one unearned run on three hits, walking no one and striking out five. Washington junior Jessie Buchholz scored the only run for the Demons on a passed ball in the fourth inning. Mount Pleasant stranded seven runners on base, six in scoring position.
The Panthers jumped out to a 7-1 lead in game two entering the sixth. Washington ended the game scoring five unanswered, plating four in the top of the sixth, to make the score 7-6. The Demons had the tying and go-head runs on base before the Panthers recorded the final out in the seventh. Buchholz scored two runs in the game two setback.
The pair of losses drops the Demons’ record to 2-12 overall. Washington returns to the diamond tonight against the Cardinal Comets (5-9 overall) in the Fairfield Softball Tournament.
