Louisa County is the latest local county confirmed to have the Emerald Ash Borer, or EAB. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has confirmed the presence of the pest in the county, making it the 32nd Iowa county with an infestation. Louisa County joins Keokuk, Johnson, Muscatine, Jefferson, and Henry, as well as southwestern Washingon County in having confirmed EAB infestations. Federal quarantines are now in place in counties where EAB have been confirmed, which restricts the movement of firewood, wood chips, and nursery stock. Jefferson County recently approved the release of beneficial wasps to help control the EAB population, but there’s no word yet if there will be similar releases in the other infested counties.
