Five bids were received by the City of Washington for their three-year solid waste and recycling services, all of which are higher than the rate the city currently pays. Currently the city pays $315,000 annually and the current contractor Luke Waste Management was the lowest bidder at about $370,000. City Administrator Brent Hinson said, everyone’s prices increased and they’ll work to make the best of the situation and look for ways to improve efficiency. The second lowest bid was $425,000 per year. The lowest bid is higher than the budgeted increase and rate increases will follow. Councilman Russ Zieglowsky encourages people to increase their recycling to help lower the number of trash bags they need.
