The Healing at English River Outfitters organization is taking aim at fundraising this Saturday. Highland Hideaway Hunting in Riverside is hosting a shooting event to benefit HERO and the veterans they help. The organization, which was founded in 2008, seeks to help veterans returning from combat to readjust to normal life. HERO founder Chuck Geertz said they help veterans enter Veterans Affairs programs and give distraught veterans someone to talk to. He says they are not counselors, but they do peer on peer mentorship.
The shooting event is one of many events HERO uses to get veterans and their families out and active. Teams of five will compete for prizes, including a rifle from Henry Rifles, trips to Las Vegas or Mexico, and a $1,000 grand prize. Individuals and teams can sign up for $100 a person, and all proceeds go to HERO. For more information or to volunteer, visit englishriveroutfitters.org.
