In Iowa 118 of the 322 crash fatalities were not buckled up in 2014, with 61% of pickup truck fatalities not buckled. Iowa’s Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau is reminding people to buckle their seat belts. From May 23rd through June 6th Click It or Ticket efforts will be focusing on seat belt violators.
Alex Dinkla with the Iowa State Patrol reminds people to be safe during this busy time with Memorial Day and graduations across the state. He advises to not be distracted by texting or being online on your phone while driving. Also, always have a designated driver when drinking. He adds with school being out there are many young drivers on the roads and it’s important for everyone to be attentive.
As of Monday morning, Iowa has had 125 traffic fatalities so far this year, a 22.5% increase from this time last year. So far this year, six of those were motorcycle fatalities.
