Cost share funds to help Iowa farmers install nutrient reduction practices are available. The 2016 sign-up period is open for eligible farmers for cover crops, no-till or strip-till, or using a nitrification inhibitor when applying fertilizer. The cost share for cover crops is $25 per acre, or $15 per acre for past cover crop users and for those trying no-till or strip-till for the first time it is $10 per acre. The nitrification inhibitor when applying fall fertilizer can receive $3 per acre for first time users. Also, farmers are eligible for cost share for up to 160 acres.

The funds will be made available in July, but applications can be submitted now through the Washington Soil and Water Conservation District office, for more information call 653-6654, ext. 3.
