Recently concluding his sixth year in the Iowa House of Representative, Jarad Klein of Keota says there’s a lot of notable accomplishments the past session. On the top of Klein’s list was not overspending when allocating the state’s newest revenue, sticking to the state’s budget principals of not spending one time money for ongoing expenses while not exceeding the revenues.
Klein says about 77 percent of the state’s newest funding resources were used on education, providing an additional $135 million. The legislature also agreed on tax coupling this session, continuing to allow people to deduct accelerated depreciation on their state taxes.
Klein adds the state passed some unprecedented oversight for Medicaid, monitoring the state’s new private healthcare system to make sure consumers are protected, outcomes are transparent, and there’s integrity within the system. He also was proud of the dual legislation
Another accomplishment saw Klein partner with Senator Kevin Kinney (D) of Oxford to establish funding for a human trafficking office in the Department of Public Safety.
April 29th marked the end of the 2016 Iowa Legislative Session, and Klein says it was the earliest adjournment in his six years of representing House District 78.
