This week is National Arson Awareness Week. The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Fire Marshal Division determined in 2015 over 36% of all fires the Division investigated in the state were determined to be arson. Nearly $2.5 million in estimated property damage occurred as a result of those fires. The Division has five arson fires across the state that remain unsolved, inlcuding two in Council Bluffs, one in Red Oak, one in Sioux Center and the fifth at a bowling all in Mt. Vernon.
