The Columbus boys soccer team put their unbeaten record on the line Friday night in Wellman against Mid-Prairie.
It was the Wildcats who came away with the 3-1 win. The Golden Hawks scored first as Ricky Vargas shredded the Wildcat defense in a one on three and to score in the 22nd minute. Columbus found the equalizer in the 27th minute when Jacob Tiffany sent one home. With the score tied at one, Columbus capitalized on a handball in the box by the Golden Hawks and Eric Cantarero drilled the PK goal to make it 2-1 going into the half. In the second half Columbus found insurance in the 54th minute on Cantarero’s second goal of the night. Mid-Prairie ended with six shots on goal as a team and keeper Nathan Reed finished with nine saves. With the win Columbus is now 7-0 on the year and will host Holy Trinity Tuesday. Mid-Prairie falls to 1-5 and will travel to Highland Monday.
