This week is National Infant Immunizations Week and the Centers for Disease Control sets a schedule of recommended vaccines for infants to have and all of them are available in Washington County. Lynn Fisher, nurse with Washington County Public Health, says it is important to protect children under two years old from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Vaccines are available for infants that protect against 14 serious diseases including pertussis, mumps, measles, rubella, and diphtheria. Fisher said some of these illnesses aren’t severe when an adult contracts them, but they can be very difficult for an infant to overcome.
