In a month’s time, the Washington Demon girls’ golf team will compete at their home course four times. The first came Monday evening when the defending Class 4A champions welcomed the Mount Pleasant Panthers to Washington’s Golf and Country Club for a nine hole Southeast Conference dual. The Demons downed the Panthers, winning the meet 174-192.
Washington’s lowest score of the day came from sophomore Sarah Nacos, who earned medalist honors by shooting a one over 37 for the half round of golf. Senior Deanna Peiffer finished her round with the second lowest score overall, carding a five over 42. Senior Brenna Burlingame completed the event in 47 strokes, while sophomore Megan Strabala rounded out the Demons’ scoring with a 48.
Senior Haley Booton completed the course in 44 strokes, the lowest score on Mount Pleasant’s team. Freshman Anni Leichty finished her nine hole round in 45 strokes.
Washington returns to competition today, taking part in a non-conference triangular against Pella and Ottumwa. Tee time is set for 4 p.m. and the teams will play into the evening at the Cedar Creek Golf Course in Ottumwa.
