The latest outdoor meet for the Washington Demon girls track team took place Thursday in Mediapolis. The Demons competed in the Bullette Invitational against athletes from Cedar Rapids Washington, Columbus, Keokuk, Mediapolis, WACO and West Liberty. The Demons finished in the middle of the pack in of the team standings, taking fourth place out of the eight team field with 81 points.
The Demons scored a pair of third place finishes in the field events. McKayla Miller threw the shot put 32′ 4″, while Makenzi Marek cleared 4′ 6″ in the high jump.
Four Demon relay teams finished in third place or better. Washington’s shuttle hurdle team of Carolan Hoffman, Mackenzie Knutson, Jessie Buchholz and Emma Wood was the only first place finisher, clocking a time of 1:13.52. The Demon distance medley team of Buchholz, Jenna Greiner, Ashley Telleen and Isabel Bailey placed second, crossing the finish line in 4:52.09. The 4×100 meter crew of Marek, Knutson, Claire Horak, and Greiner came away with a third place finish, clocking 55.65 seconds. The sprint medley squad of Marek, Knutson, Bailey, and Greiner also came away with a third place finish, completing the event in 2:07.12.
Individually, Maggie Voss came away with a third place finish in the 3000 meter run, clocking a time of 13:31.42.
The Pekin Panthers won the team title, complying 156 points. Washington’s girls return to competition on Tuesday in Williamsburg, competing in the Raider Invitational.
