A request to establish a volunteer pioneer cemetery commission to care for their maintenance and preservation was heard at this week’s Washington County Supervisors meeting. Heather Patterson explained a pioneer cemetery is one that has had less than 12 burials in the past 50 years. Patterson said the commission could work in conjunction with the township trustees to take care of the cemeteries. No action was taken, but supervisor chairman Richard Young recommend county auditor Dan Widmer have a meeting with the trustees and do an inventory of cemeteries in the county.
