Forums are being held so community members can learn more about the new YMCA project in Washington. One meeting is being held today at 5 p.m. at the Washington YMCA and another will be held April 26th at noon. Becky Harkema, director of the YMCA of Washington County, explains the project will include a full-sized gym, a larger pool, a fitness area and space for services clubs to meet. There will still be 24-access to the fitness center. She adds the main reason they’re looking to build new is because they need more space for programs.

The project received the Washington County Riverboat Foundation’s largest grant in it’s history in November at $3.5 million. They’re also seeking a $1.5 million grant from Vision Iowa. So far they have about half of the $10.8 million raised.
