A Salem woman has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for bank fraud committed in Mount Pleasant. Forty-four-year-old Lori Kristine Bentler was sentenced Friday in United States District Court for defrauding the M.H.I. Credit Union. Bentler was ordered to serve five years of supervised release following her prison term and pay almost $250,000 in restitution.
An employee of the credit union, Bentler fraudulently funded a $30,000 loan to herself without approval from the board of directors. Bentler also admitted that she fraudulently issued and refinanced several loans to her sister and her daughter. The crimes were investigated by the FBI.
