On Wednesday, Becky Harkema, director of the YMCA of Washington County, will meet with Vision Iowa again to discuss a potential $1.5 million grant, but before that the county supervisors will consider a gift to the project. The YMCA is currently raising funds for a new $10.8 million facility to be built in Washington. Harkema said they have about $6,000,000 raised so far. Last time she met with Vision Iowa representatives they recommended that she seek a larger gift from the Washington County Board of Supervisors. They recommended the county give a gift of $50,000 in total, so $10,000 each year for five years.
The supervisors tabled the item two weeks ago to think about the budget and so constituents would have a chance to voice their opinions on the matter. Now, the supervisors will consider the item at their regular meeting tomorrow, which begins at 9:30 a.m.
The YMCA is holding community forums for the public to learn about the project. They’re being held March 14th at noon, March 23rd at 5 p.m. and April 26th at noon at the Washington YMCA.
