That’s Washington High School graduate Ryan Barnes who now lives in Japan and recently completed a 500 mile bike ride in six days across Cambodia to raise money for clean water. Barnes now teaches English in Japan and he and a professor he works with completed the bike ride through Hope International. He explains they took the two busiest highways in the country, both are one lane roads and most of the days the temperature was 95 degrees because it is in the tropics.

The money raised will go to installing wells in Cambodia. Barnes had a chance to meet some of the families who benefit from these efforts. He explained one family is now able to send their children to school because they aren’t spending hours every day just to go get water to survive.

Barnes had sponsors from the U.S., Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and Australia. To hear more about his efforts listen to today’s Washington Page.
