The proposed $3.9 million in bonds for a $4,029,447 addition to the Kalona Community Center was approved by voters Tuesday night. The bond vote needed 60 percent support of voters in Kalona and the final tally was 400 to 204, or 66 percent. The tax impact on residents in Kalona is an increase of about $7.69 per month for a house valued at $100,000.

Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says, the committee is ecstatic for the support the community has given them. The next step is to work with the architect and finalize the plans and begin project bidding. Schlabaugh adds the Community Center Committee hopes to move quickly and break ground on the project before the end of the year.
