Two members of the Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union wrestling team finished their seasons on the podium at the 2016 Iowa High School State Wrestling tournament. Senior Josh Keller (113) and junior Tucker Morrison (170) took part in all three days of competition at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, and each athlete came away with a seventh place medal.

Keller, last year’s 106 pound runner up, dropped into the consolation bracket quickly after being pinned by New Hampton’s Noah Fye 1:14 into their opening round grapple. He bounced back to win two straight consolation rounds, edging ADM’s Nolan Harsh by 2-0 decision, and defeating Creston/Orient-Macksburg by fall 1:04 into their secound round match. Keller dropped a 9-1 major decision in the consolation’s third round to Webster City’s Drake Doolittle, sending him into the seventh place match. He finished his Wildcat wrestling career with a win by fall over Davenport Assumption’s Jacob Felderman 1:45 into their match. Keller ends his season with a 42-3 overall mark.

Morrison opened his state tournament run with a 5-1 decision win over Sheldon/South O`Brien’s Luke Jenness. His first loss of the tournament happened in the championship quarterfinal round, dropping a 10-2 major decision versus Creston/Orient-Macksburg’s Chase Shiltz. Morrison qualified for the medal round by winning a 3-1 decision over Solon’s Dillon Diltz in the second round of the consolation bracket. He dropped his third round consolation grapple to Glenwood’s Anthony Sherry by a 5-4 decision, dropping Morrison into the seventh place match. He ended the tournament on a positive note, defeating Iowa Falls-Alden’s Michael Kent by a 6-5 decision. Morrison finishes his junior season with a 47-3 overall record.
