Governor Terry Brandstad’s plan to privatize Medicaid in Iowa is facing more scrutiny. The Health Care Protection Act was approved 29 to 19 in the Iowa Senate. The bill repeals the plan to have private companies manage Medicaid in Iowa. Currently Medicaid provides health care to over half a million low income and disabled Iowans. State Senator Rich Taylor of Mt. Pleasant says, he continues to receive email after email with concerned constituents who don’t believe the governor’s Medicaid plan will work.

Taylor and Senate leadership acknowledge the bill is likely dead on arrival to the Republican controlled Iowa House of Representatives. The plan originally set to go into affect on January 1st was delayed to March 1st by federal regulators due to numerous concerns. For more from Taylor listen to Friday’s and today’s In Touch with Southeast Iowa.
