Thirty-two minutes wasn’t enough time to decide last night’s season finale between two Southeast Conference rivals. As heard on AM/FM KCII and KCIIRadio.com, the Washington Demon girls’ basketball team (10-10 overall) traveled to Mount Pleasant to conclude the regular season versus their biggest rival the Panthers (6-15 overall). After the Panthers forced the game into overtime, Washington outscored Mount Pleasant 12-6 in the extra four minutes for a 61-55 victory.

The battle featured nine lead changes and was tied for times with the game ultimately being deadlocked at 49-49 entering overtime. A majority of the Demons points in the extra period came from the free throw line. Washington senior Amber Salow went eight-for-eight from the charity stripe in overtime to propel the Demons to victory. Salow and sophomore guard Sarah Nacos combine to score 39 of Washington’s 61 points on the night. All the scoring by the Demons Friday night came from their starting five of Nacos (20), Salow (19), Addie Pacha (9), Brynna DeLong (9), and Mckayla Miller (2).

The win improves Washington’s overall record to 10-10 overall, and completes a season sweep of Mount Pleasant. The Demons enter postseason play Wednesday in the Class 4A Region 5 bracket, battling the Osklaoosa Indians (3-18 overall) at Washington High School.
