The Lone Tree boys and girls basketball teams swept a doubleheader from visiting Iowa Mennonite School on Friday night.

The Lady Lions used a fast start to grab control and take the girls contest 50-30. Lone Tree started the game on a 16-4 run that lasted the entire first quarter. The Lions kept the pressure on, outscoring IMS 12-6 in the second quarter to build a 28-10 lead at the break. IMS made a push in the third quarter, holding Lone Tree to just four points in the frame to cut the lead to 32-19 but Iowa Mennonite would get no closer down the stretch as Lone Tree finished out the 20 point victory. On the night the Lady Lions were led by Madison Forbes and her 16 points, Riley Warson had 13 and Morgyn Edwards added 11 in the win.

On the boys side Lone Tree got by Iowa Mennonite with a 66-57 win. The boys used the same formula the ladies had earlier n the night with Lone Tree jumping out to  a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Lone Tree held serve in the second quarter to take a 29-22 lead into the halftime break. Iowa Mennonite made their run in the third quarter, cutting it to a one possession game, Lone Tree weathered the storm, leading 47-42 going to the final frame. In the fourth, the Lions outscored IMS by four to secure the win. In the victory, Lone Tree was led by Niko Gosnell’s double double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jovonte Squires finished with 13 points and Brock Smith and Dawson Swails both went for 11 points. Iowa Mennonite was led by Eli Gingerich with 20 points, Drake Brezina finished with 11. These two schools will meet again in the first round of the boys and girls playoffs, beginning in the next week.
