The Highland boys and girls basketball teams swept a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader from Iowa Mennonite School Tuesday night in rural Riverside.

In a pair of games heard on KCII, the Highland girls used a 19-0 run to jump out to a big first quarter lead and never look back in a 61-16 win over IMS. Suzanna Yoder scored the first basket of the game to put IMS up 2-0 and the Huskies responded by rattling off the next 19 straight. HIghland enjoyed their largest lead of the first half at the halftime break, up 33-13. The Huskies put the game away, beginning the second half on a 12-0 run and outscoring Iowa Mennonite 28-3 total in the second half. The Highland defense surrendered just one second half field goal to IMS and shut them out in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

On the night Highland forced 32 IMS turnovers. The Huskies were led by Cheyann Adamson with 13 points, Briana Davis and Aly Stokes each finished with a dozen. Suzanna Yoder had 12 points to lead IMS. With the win Highland is now 13-3 overall, 10-1 in conference play while IMS falls to 0-12 on the season.

The boys contest was key for the conference standings with Highland tied for the league lead while IMS entered play Tuesday night just a game and a half back. In the end the Huskies took care of business on their home court and kept pace at the top of the standings with a 54-45 win. In the first quarter both teams held leads of four points. With the score 11-7 late in the frame Highland began a 17-2 burst that would see them build their largest advantage of the night at 24-13. IMS bounced back with five late first half points to climb within 24-18 at the halftime break.

In the second half IMS made three separate pushes to cut into the lead and each time they were turned back by Highland. Late in the third quarter, after seeing the Huskies build their lead back to 10, IMS cut the advantage to two points but the Huskies found an answer. Twice in the fourth quarter IMS crept within four but were denied by the Huskies who put the game away late.

The Highland bench outscored the IMS bench 22-9 in the contest and turned IMS over eight more times. Highland was led on the night by reserve played Chase Rath and his 13 points. IMS got 13 from Nick Yutzy. With the win Highland is now 12-3 overall 8-2 in conference play while Iowa Mennonite falls to 8-5 overall, 5-4 in the SEISC.
