A former Washington Demon wrestler is starting to received more collegiate mat time this winter. Coe College sophomore Fletcher Green has been the starting lightweight wrestler for the Kohawks this season at 125 pounds.
Green was one of nine Coe wrestlers to place among the top four in the recent Luther Hill Invite tournament hosted by Simpson College on Saturday, December 12. The 2014 Demon graduate received a bye in the first round before losing a 6-0 decision to Tristian Bundy of Grand View University in the championship bracket. Bundy would go on to claim the tournament championship.
Green proceeded in the wrestleback bracket, collecting three pins, and a 23-12 technical fall to earn a spot in the tournament’s third place match. The consolation bout went Grand View’s Trevor Murano, who pinned Green 4:23 into their grapple. He ended the tournament as the fourth best wrestler among the 17 athlete field. His effort improved his season record to 4-4 overall, and pushing his college career record to 13-9.
Green’s high school wrestling achievements at Washington are well documented. His 155 dual wins stands as the most in school history, and he captured the 2013 State Championship at 113 pounds with an 8-3 decision over Zach Less of West Delaware.
Green and the Kohawks return to the mat tomorrow, competing in the Wartburg Desert Duals in Las Vegas, NV.
