The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams dropped both ends of a double header on the road Tuesday night in Iowa City.

In the girls contest Iowa City Regina topped Mid-Prairie 50-37. The Golden Hawks scored the first basket of the night before watching the Regals pour in 14 straight. The Golden Hawks chipped away at the deficit and trailed just 18-14 going to the halftime break. Out of the locker room the Mid-Prairie run continued, and the Hawks took their first lead since the early moments of the game at 22-19. It was Regina’s turn for an answer and they found it, scoring 13 straight to take a 32-22 lead midway through the fourth quarter. The Regals controlled the game the rest of the way for the win. In the loss Mid-Prairie was led by Ali Butters with 16 points. The Mid-Prairie girls are now 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the River Valley Conference.

The Mid-Prairie boys basketball team got a big effort from Nolan Faselt and played an excellent first half but couldn’t finish out the win falling to Regina 55-36 on Tuesday. Faselt went toe to toe with the Regals on his own in the first half, pouring in Mid-Prairie’s first 15 points. The Golden Hawks put together a great defensive effort in the first half and found themselves tied at 19 going to the locker room. In the second half the Regals began to find some holes in the Mid-Prairie zone and outscored Mid-Prairie 17-9 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Mid-Prairie was led on the night by Faselt with 17 points. With the loss, Mid-Prairie falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the River Valley Conference. The Golden Hawk boys and girls will both be back in action on Friday night when they host Wilton.
