Two regional girls’ basketball teams met on the court over the weekend in Solon. The Washington Demons (1-1 overall) ended their 12 day layoff between games Saturday afternoon, competing in their first road game of the season versus the Solon Spartans (3-1 overall). The non-conference battle saw Solon edge Washington, 52-48.

The Demons jumped out to an early 13-4 lead in the first quarter, but were outscored 21-7 in the second frame, entering the halftime locker room down, 25-21. Washington won the third quarter, 22-19, to cut the deficit to two points prior to the start of the final eight minutes. Solon outscored Washington by one basket in the last quarter, 8-6, propelling the Spartans to a four point victory.

For a second straight game, Washington was led in scoring by senior forward Addie Pacha. She recorded a team-best 14 points and snatched six rebounds for the Demons. Senior guard Morgan Kimball and sophomore Sarah Nacos each chipped in eight points apiece in the setback.

The Spartans had two players score double digit points in the victory. Senior Hannah Blunder posted a game-high 16 points, including converting eight for eight at the free throw line. Senior Dakota Doyle added 14 points, shooting five for 10 from the floor. The two grabbed down 15 rebounds together in the victory.

The loss drops Washington’s early season record to 1-1 overall. The Demons return to the court Friday evening, hosting the Fairfield Trojans in the schools Southeast Conference opener.
