A budget amendment was approved by the Washington City Council unanimously at their meeting Tuesday. Administrator Brent Hinson explained the City usually has two budget amendments throughout the year. Under the amendment there is $5.3 million in expenditures for capital projects, most of which are carry over projects. These items were budgeted in previous years but had not been finished before the fiscal year ended. The one exception is the cost of repairs for one of the city’s three municipal wells. Funds for the fix will come from the water revenue.
The budget amendment shows approximately $2.8 million in revenue for grants that haven’t been drawn down or from transfers that hadn’t been made last year when a project was not yet complete. Finance Director Kelsey Brown adds with the budget amendment, the ending balance shows $3.6 million for the city, but it is expected to be higher by the end of the fiscal year.
