A dog who was rescued in California in 2011 turned up in Washington this fall and will be reuniting with her original rescuer this week in Texas. Harley, is a 15-pound, terrier mix. Mindy Howe explains she saved the little dog when she was working as a veterinary technician near Sacrament California and animal control bought the stray dog in who had two broken legs. Howe paid for the dog’s treatment and took her home.
Howe then joined her husband in working in the oil industry and began moving frequently. She decided she had to re-home Harley so the dog could get more time and attention. Howe found a family with children and said good-bye to her dog.
Since then, Howe and her family have settled into a house in Texas. A few weeks ago, Howe received a phone call from PAWS and More Animal Shelter in Washington explaining a stray dog came into the shelter and the microchip provided Howe’s phone number. Howe says she was in tears to hear that her dog had been found. She recommends people take the time to microchip their pets and update the information so that if a pet is lost they can be reunited.
Harley will be riding to Texas with a family who is visiting the Washington area for Thanksgiving. The pair will be reunited in Austin, Texas, this weekend.
