A caterpillar, ruby slipper, pig and more are featured in a two-story tall mural in downtown Washington that is now finished. The artwork is on the back of the Washington Public Library and is inspired by children’s literature. An official ribbon cutting will be held tomorrow at 4:45 p.m. Debbie Stanton, director of the library says she is very excited for the event and they welcome families to stay for refreshments and music.

The mural was created and painted by Erin Rappleye, a recent graduate of the University of Iowa’s Master of Fine Arts program. She began the artwork in the summer of 2014. During tomorrow’s event the library will also have their second floor children’s play area open.

The original concept for the mural.
