The Keota School Board is continuing to look into the possibility of installing solar energy for the district. During its recent meeting the board heard a presentation from John Muller, with Iowa School Finance Information Services. Board members are currently looking at what funding options might be available. Superintendent Mark Schneider says the cost to install the necessary equipment to power the entire district would run about $900,000. He says with the savings in power usage, it’s estimated it would take about 10 years for the district to get payback on the investment.
Board members also heard recommendations from the district’s technology committee. Those recommendations included increasing bandwidth in the district, to better handle the load for students during on line course time. Also, the committee suggested upgrading the wireless network at the school to provide an increase in speed on the network.
Representatives of the Keota Education Advocacy Team were on hand to discuss possible fundraising activities. This is a group of private citizens who are raising money to provide further support for the district.
