A memorial for Washington County soldiers who gave their lives in the World War can be seen in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Veterans and their families are invited to a free meal this Wednesday, Veterans Day, in Washington. The Washington County Military Museum and American Legion Post #29 are co-hosting the event, Rachel Nicola with the museum explains it is a free-will offering for the dinner.

A retired Marine Corps member who served in active duty in Operation Desert Storm in the liberation of Kuwait will be the keynote speaker. First Sergeant J. “Mac” McDonald of Tama is now a pastor and will be speaking.

Nicola adds it is important to show gratitude for our veterans for their service and this is an opportunity to recognize what they gave. The free-will donation dinner will be held at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington at 6 p.m. November 11th.
